David Adelson, PhD

Academic Titles:
Assistant Researcher, Division of Digestive Diseases, Department of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
(310) 478-3711 ext. 41961

Dr. Adelson studies autonomic nervous control of gastrointestinal and pancreatic physiology and pathophysiology. He developed a technique termed dual-recording, which involves simultaneous recording of afferent and efferent multi- and single-unit activity in the gastric vagus and splanchnic nerves in rats. He has also developed approaches for monitoring motility and sphincter activity in vivo using ultrasonomicrometry and has created specialized software for the analysis of data obtained using these methods. In addition to these in vivo techniques, he is also an expert in in vitro afferent fiber electrophysiology preparations. Using a combination of these techniques, Dr. Adelson is investigating the interaction of neural and hormonal signaling in regulating the digestive system.
